During the African Health Economics Association (AfHEA) 2025 Conference, held in Kigali, Nateiya Mmeta Yongolo presented her findings from the Multilink cohort study within Malawi and Tanzania.
Nateiya’s presentation; “Evaluating Health Related Quality of Life and Health Care Costs in Acutely Admitted Patients with Multimorbidity”, highlighted the significant economic and health burden faced by hospitalised multimorbid patients. This included high mortality rates, reduced quality of life and catastrophic healthcare costs.
The presentation sparked vibrant discussions around healthcare systems readiness, financial protection processes and the need for integrated, patient-centre care models in Sub-Saharan Africa. It reinforced the urgent call for health policy reforms to address multimorbidity and support Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The session engaged an international audience of policymakers and practitioners, thus strengthening the visibility of Multilink’s work and inspiring future collaborations across the region.
