Dr. Marlen Stacey Chawani
Marlen is a Health Information Systems (HIS) specialist with 15 years’ experience working within the Malawi health sector. She has been involved in designing and implementing different types of Information Systems in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. She holds a PhD and a Master’s degree in Information Systems from the University of Oslo, Norway, and a BSc in Computer Science from Chancellor College, University of Malawi.
She is currently working as a Health Systems and Policy Research Fellow within the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Policy unit and the Health Economics and Policy Unit (HEPU)- Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. Her role involves facilitating engagement between national policy makers and researchers to strengthen Evidence-Informed Decision Making within the Malawi health sector. Her research interests are in developing appropriate participatory design methods in the development of novel Digital health solutions to improve quality of care in low- and middle-income countries.
