Dr Genesis Chorwe-Sungani, PhD

Genesis is an Associate Professor in Mental Health at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) and Acting Director of the Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research as well as a member of KUHeS-MLW Executive Committee and KUHeS-MLW Training Committee.

Genesis has more than 15 years’ experience of teaching in higher education institutions and his research focuses on maternal mental health, particularly antenatal depression, where he developed a Screening Protocol for Antenatal Depression (SPADe) for use in Blantyre District, Malawi. He is a founding member and Country Representative for Malawi of the African Alliance for Maternal Mental Health which is advocating for establishment of maternal mental health services in Africa.

Genesis has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals. His community engagement includes provision of mental health care in prisons and conducting mental health awareness talks on various media outlets.
